Ride Leader: Paul Jacobs
This year’s ride, the third in our series is going to be called the
“The 8 Ball”.
As with the previous year’s ride it is
“A riders Ride.”
We are going to ride eight mountains in a day. Maximum saddle time between stops will be two hours. Mostly less.
Leaving Gloria’s at 9am the first stage will be the local mountains of Springwood, Beechmont and Tamborine with our first stop being the Bearded Dragon for refreshment and leg stretch. There will be a two-minute prostrate stop at the top of Beechmont for those in need.
From the Bearded Dragon we will wind our way via Greenbank and Springfield Lakes to Mount Coot-Tha for the obligatory picture opportunity. Please follow me around the back so we can all park together.
From Mount Coot-Tah we will make the ten-minute journey to our lunch stop at the Gap Tavern. The Tavern has a lovely deck with great views. The seniors amongst us can take advantage of the senior meals at $15.00 which look good.
This is approximately 178k’s from the start so I would advise most to top up with fuel here at the BP After lunch if we could do this in shifts that would be good.
From the Gap we will do a loop of Mount Nebo, Mount Glorious, Mount Samson and Clear mountain. This will take approximately 1 hour 45 minutes with last drinks at the Ferny Grove pub.
From there it’s a simple ride down the M1 home. Total distance 350k’s back to Helensvale.
This ride has a difficulty rating of 8/10. Whilst all are welcome, if corners aren’t your thing, please allow others to pass and ride with Charlie at the rear.
For those who complete the ride, badges will be offered at $5 per, please bring your money on the day to secure your badge.
It’s a challenging and therefore rewarding ride, I hope you’ll join me on Saturday the 1st August.
