Day Dawn Service and Commemoration Ride Dawn Service
Greetings Cruisers! As you know, ANZAC Day will be commemorated on Monday, 25 April beginning with the Dawn Service. Gold Coast Cruiser Club will this year, as with years past will attend the Dawn Service at Elsie Laver Park. The service is due to commence at 5am.
GCCC asks that everyone attending the Dawn Service ride arrive no later than 4.30am in order to not disrupt the preparations. We park our bikes in the Elsie Laver car park. Space is at a premium so we do encourage everyone to park close!
GCCC will lay a wreath at the Cenotaph during the Dawn Service.
Ride – Part 1
At the conclusion of the Dawn Service, we will mount up and depart. Our route will take us to onto the M1 heading south.
Prior to joining the M1 though we will congregate on the M1 entrance ramp to give everyone time to catch up/assemble.
It’s unlikely that the M1 will be very busy early in the morning but I’ll keep the trip at a sensible pace and hope everyone
can keep well bunched up.
We will exit the M1 at the Tugun exit. NOTE: For safety, I will NOT leave a corner maker at this exit. If we do get spread
out on the way down, please take the Tugun exit. I’ll look at pulling over on the Gold Coast Highway to give everyone a
chance to catch up if necessary.
Upon arrival at Point Danger, we will have a chance to mingle and chat before taking a group photo.
Ride – Part 2
After departing Point Danger, we will head out back toward Tugun and continue down Stewarts Road, out Currumbin
Creek Road to Tomewin Rd, Numinbah Road/Nerang Murwillumbah Rd and though the stunning Numinbah Valley.
Depending on time restraints a short at Chillingham. We will continue along Nerang Murwillumbah Rd and then turn
right onto the Nerang Beaudesert Rd where we’ll travel through to Barrow for Breakfast at 463 Nerang – Beaudesert
Rd. Intentions are to be there at around 8.45am (102km)
I’ll only cancel the ride if the weather is particularly bad. A bit of rain won’t stop the ride going ahead but if it does rain I
will slow the ride down to match the weather conditions.
Distance / Timing
All up from Mudgeeraba to Pt Danger and back to Barrow for breakfast we are looking at a total distance of about
125km. I imagine we will be finished up no later than 10.30am and everyone is free to depart from the Cafe and make
your own way home.
Lest we forget.
