It is fitting that this ride is falling within the commemorative, remembrance part of the calendar. This ride we will be remembering our family and friends who have passed on, and the route chosen bears this in mind. I will have some of my Dad’s ashes with me to join our other family/friends under our Memorial Tree.
After breakfast at Gloria’s, we will head South and take in some of the favoured roads of those we remember. We will run over Tomewin, along the beach, with a drink break at Mooball. Then over Burringbar and onto the Mount Warning Hotel for anyone who wishes to pick up refreshments.
A huge thank you to the Steering Committee, and their better halves, who have been working hard in the background organizing the lunch that will be set up for us at Crams Farm, and they need to be acknowledged for their commitment to this ride and the group. Let us not forget that this lunch is paid for solely by your generous donations in the form of “the ride money”
It would also be very remiss of me not to thank Glenn Condon for his input into this ride as well as his friendship and support over the last more than 15 years. As some of you know, I recently had surgery and was touch and go to ride this event, so Glenn offered to understudy.
There will be a number of places along the ride where we will slow, and I will point to specific spots along the route. If you feel safe doing so, point these out to the riders behind you. These represent the places that resonated strongly with our members who have ridden on. I can almost feel their presence at some of these spots!
I have also spoken with Banjo about conducting the ceremony.
He is, I believe, comfortable to do so and I hope to see you there, and if you have never been on one yet, these rides are one of our marquee events.
